The binomial name for Longan is Dimocarpus longan. Native to southers Asia, Longan is a tropical member of the Soapberry family. Another tropical Soapberry member comonly associated with Longan is the Lychee. Longan should not be confused with Loganberry, but this happens because the spellings are similar.
