Mayapple fruit is edible in moderate amounts, but when consumed in large amounts the fruit is poisonous. The binomial name for Mayapple is Podophyllum peltatum. Other common names include American Mandrake, Hogapple, Indian Apple, Mayflower, Umbrella Plant, Wild Lemon, and Wild Mandrake.
